Building Through the Winter and in the Cold

Scared of getting your roof built during the Winter months? Nowadays, building through the cold is not the issue it once was. Utilizing GAF Timberline HDZ, we have the best shingle on the market which seals in just 2 hours, as long as the temperature is above 40 F. This evolution in roofing products has allowed us to have the ability to build year round. Competitors using other brands may take weeks at best to seal properly in colder conditions. Rain, sleet, or snow will still leave the possibility of building being delayed. However, it is important to not be intimidated by the cold season ahead, and to get your roof replaced as soon as possible. Liberty is here to make sure you know everything about the best practices for installation during the Winter months ahead!

What to Know

Below is a checklist you can follow to ensure that proper procedures are being followed during roof installation in colder temperatures.

  • Temperature must be 40 F at a minimum for installation
  • Store shingles are in a secure environment at 70 F the day before installation
  • Keep materials in a similar, heated environment if they are not actively being used
  • Watch for inclement weather in the days leading up to installation, as ice or any sort of moisture will compromise the sealing of the shingles

Following these simple steps will go a long way in protecting your home. It is these fundamentals that we have followed to earn a GAF Master Elite Certification.

Hand Sealing

Hand sealing is an additional, secure step installers may take in colder temperatures to fortify your home. This practice uses additional roofing cement to be placed underneath each shingle. Installers will consider this in colder temperatures and follow instructions which are provided with the associated GAF materials.
